Two children with cancer from the Little Valiente Association – Jimena and Adán – were in charge this Friday, together with the mayor of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Carolina Darias, of lighting the Christmas tree at Las Arenas shopping center in Las Palmas de Gran Canary. There was so much desire to press the button that Jimena jumped in without the countdown having barely started. Thank goodness that the presenter of Spanish Television in the Canary Islands, Roberto Herrera, master of ceremony, was quick and stopped the little girl to give excitement to the lighting, which brought together hundreds of people around the commercial establishment, so much so that traffic collapsed.

Jimena and Adán, the two children in charge of lighting the tree, actively participating during the celebration of the event.

But the surprise that the shopping center, which this year celebrates thirty years in operation, had in store, would come after the lighting of the tree, four stories high and crowned with a star, if not the digital water curtain, a fountain that has been projected on the same square and where the name Las Arenas appears, which will surely become a new icon for Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Let’s light Christmas together, the motto chosen for this year, this edition featured the singer Soraya Arnelas as godmother of honor. Dressed in Santa Claus tones, the artist opened the show an hour before with the traditional White Christmas.

The singer was full of sympathy and regretted that her daughters Manuela and Olivia had not come to Gran Canaria to see “the arrival of Christmas” and enjoy a fantastic almost summer night.

Along with the singer, who represented Spain in 2009, was Jorge González, who became known in Operación Triunfo as the artist from Extremadura and who, coincidentally, is one of the 16 chosen to compete in the Benidorm Fest 2024, where in February to the song and the artist who will represent Spain at Eurovision in Malmö (Sweden).

The godmother of Las Arenas shopping center last year, Gran Canarian Cristina Ramos, winner of the first edition of Got Talent Spain and the seventh season of La Voz in Mexico, also joined the magical night. And she, along with Soraya, performed “All I want for Christmas is You” with a double nod to Mariah Carey.

The repertoire was very Christmassy and even Roberto Herrera did not want to miss the opportunity to perform a Christmas carol. “For my people, whatever it takes,” he said, and began to sing. Santa Claus arrived in the city with Soraya with great ease.

Minutes before the lighting, the manager of the Las Arenas shopping center Francisco Javier Ramírez thanked “the loyalty and trust” that the Canarians have had with the establishment during these three decades and promised that the group will continue working so that the large store continues to be a reference. for shopping and recreation. Proof of this, he said, was the DWC fountain that has been designed for this anniversary.

Ramírez also thanked the marketing and maintenance team of the shopping center for the design they have prepared for this Christmas, which will not miss the ice rink, the San Juan de Dios nativity scene, children’s attractions and the sale of artisan products, as well as a sled with which to take a photo and share it through social networks.

The mayor of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Carolina Darias congratulated the Las Arenas group for “its commitment to the city” and its ability to modernize “which says a lot about the brand.”
